PREMATURE BABY MANAGEMENT
WHAT IS PREMATURE BABY?
When a infant is born before 37 weeks of pregnancy, it is considered a premature birth. The earlier the birth, the more serious the health risks to the Infant. Preterm infants need special care & careful monitoring to help them grow and develop outside of the mother’s womb.
Preterm births fall into four categories–
Late preterm– born between 34 & 36 weeks.
Moderately preterm– born between 32 & 34 weeks.
Very preterm– born before 32 weeks.
Extremely preterm– born before 25 weeks.
Babies need a full term in the womb to develop. If they are born before full term, they may not completely grow. This can cause serious health problems. Complications from premature births are the leading cause of death in children under 5. Preemie babies tend to have brain, heart, lung or liver issues.
